‘Agniveer’ of Mansa was martyred in Jammu and Kashmir

Agniveer Lovepreet Singh (24), a young man of Akaliya village in Mansa district, has been martyred while on duty. This young man had joined the army two years ago and was now serving in the Rashtriya Rifles in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to information, Lovepreet has been martyred due to a bullet on the head during an encounter with terrorists in Kupwara. He was the youngest of two brothers and was single. The last rites of Shaheed Lovepreet Singh are likely to be held at village Akaliya tomorrow, Friday. His dead body is expected to reach the village on Friday itself.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has expressed his condolences to the family by tweeting. He said, “Sincere salutations to Siddak for the courage of Bahadar Jawan towards the country, the Punjab government is with the family at this difficult time and as promised, all possible help will be provided.” He said that for us, our soldiers are our pride, even if they are not fire fighters.

Lovepreet Singh was posted in the medium regiment unit and joined the army two years ago. According to the family members, Lovepreet Singh had talked to his parents on the phone two days ago and informed them about the coming of leave in the next few days. He said that Lovepreet Singh was shot during an encounter with terrorists in Kuppwara at 3 pm yesterday, after which he was taken to the hospital, where he was declared a martyr. There is a wave of mourning in the village after receiving the news of Lovepreet Singh’s martyrdom. Sarpanch of the village Jasveer Singh expressed grief and said that the youth recruited under the Agniveer Yojana should also get facilities like other soldiers.
