Washington, January 23
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday said that India has always been ready for the valid return of Indians living in the US without valid documents. He said that India is still in the process of identifying those people from the US who can be sent to India and the number of such persons is yet to be ascertained.
“As a government we are clearly big supporters of valid movement (of people),” Jaishankar said while talking to Indian journalists here. We want Indian talent and Indian skills to get more opportunities globally. At the same time, we also firmly oppose illegal traffic and illegal migration.”
“You also know that when something is illegal, many other illegal activities are associated with it, which is not right,” Jaishankar said. It is certainly not good for agriculture either. We have always said that if any of our citizens are there illegally and if we think they are our citizens, we will always be ready for their valid return to India.”
Jaishankar said that he has spoken to Secretary of State Marco Rubio about this and I have seen the figures, for us it is not just a figure. It will be effective only when we can actually verify the fact that the person concerned is of Indian origin. –News-Patiala
