Instagram has now officially started supporting for photos with Aspect Ratio. Usually most smartphone cameras click photos in this proportion. Now users will not need a crop before uploading photos. Earlier, Instagram used to support only pictures of 5: 4 and 1: 1 ratio. Now whether you upload a single photo or add to a carousel (post with several photos), the photo taken in 3: 4 ratio on Instagram will appear completely in the same format as it was taken from the camera.
Along with 3: 4, old formats will also be available
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, posted this update on the Threads app. He wrote, “Now if you upload a 3: 4 ratio picture, then it will appear exactly as you pulled.” He told that Instagram now supports the same format which is default mostly in smartphone cameras.
It was also confirmed on Instagram’s Creator Broadcast Channel that this support would be applicable in both single photo and photo Carocell. However, those who still want to upload photos in 4: 5 or 1: 1 (square) format can do so. But if you take photos without changing the settings from the smartphone, then they might have to crop for the old format.
A screenshot shared on the channel also shows how the 3: 4 ratio picture will look on Instagram. On the one hand there is a small picture cropped in 4: 5, while on the other hand the same photo is shown in 3: 4 ratio with higher height, due to which more information is clearly visible.
Recent Instagram features
Last month, Instagram launched a new Edits app which allows the video edit on the smartphone. This app has been specially introduced to compete with the Capcut app of Bytedance. With the help of this app, users can edit video without watermark and can also share them on other apps.
Apart from this, Instagram has also recently introduced a blend feature that recommends users to their favorite reels in the message section. This feature remained in testing for about a year and is now available only to Invite-only users. Blend feature shows a customized reels feed based on the user’s Instagram activity. This feature is currently available on both iOS and Android.
