Ambedkar scholarship scheme announced for Dalit students of Delhi to study abroad

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal today announced the Ambedkar Scholarship for free study abroad for Dalit students from the city ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. Kejriwal said that Dr. Ambedkar Samman Scholarship by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to Dr. Baba Sahib is the answer to Ambedkar’s ‘insult’. The former Chief Minister of Delhi told reporters at the ‘AAP’ headquarters, “Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Dr. Babasaheb in the Parliament.” Ambedkar has been insulted and ridiculed. Crores of people who loved Ambedkar were deeply hurt because of this.”

Kejriwal said that Ambedkar had said that education is the way forward and despite all the obstacles, he got his PhD degree from America. The ‘AAP’ chief said that this stipend is a response to BJP’s insult to the main clause of the Indian Constitution. He said, “Under this scheme, any Dalit student of Delhi will be able to get education in foreign universities. If they get admission in such a university, the entire cost of their education, travel and accommodation will be borne by the Delhi government. Kejriwal said that children of government employees will also be eligible for this scheme. However, they did not say when and how this scholarship will be given. The AAP chief has promised Rs 2,100 per month to all women and free treatment to senior citizens in government and private hospitals if his party returns to power in February. -News-Patiala

Congress attack on Kejriwal on Ambedkar issue

New Delhi: Congress today targeted Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal on the issue related to Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar, saying that everyone knows about the history of this person and it is also known that he supported reservation. What was spoken about Congress media chief Pawan Khera took aim at the former Delhi chief minister when asked about Kejriwal’s promise to start a scholarship in the name of Babasaheb in Delhi. He said, “You (journalists) know more about this person’s history than I do. They also all know what this person spoke for reservation earlier. You know who was in ‘Youth for Equality’, who was in ‘India Against Corruption’. Don’t open my mouth.” Khera targeted Kejriwal and also said that Rajinderpal Gautam, who was a minister in his government, was removed for taking the name of Babasaheb. Gautam is now in the Congress. Both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party are involved in the ‘India’ alliance.
