Punjab News – Ambedkar statue vandalism: Babasaheb Dr. established in Heritage Street here. The case of vandalizing and insulting the statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar has been blown up. Various Dalit organizations have called for Amritsar bandh on Monday.
This morning, some organizations belonging to the Valmik community staged a dharna at the Bhandari bridge in the city and traffic was stopped. Similarly, shops in Hall Gate and Hall Bazar area are also closed. In view of this, a large number of police force has also been deployed in the city.
On the other hand, today MP Gurjit Singh Aujla, former MLA Rajkumar Verka and other Congressmen tried to restore the dignity of the statue by washing it with milk and cleaning it. The MP demanded that the matter be investigated under the supervision of a judge.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar has assured to register a case against the person arrested in this case and investigate the matter thoroughly. The arrested person has been identified as Akash Singh, a resident of Dharamkot, Moga district, who himself is said to belong to the SC community.
Dr. By washing the statue of Ambedkar with milk and offering floral garlands, the Member of Parliament Mr. Aujla has strongly condemned this incident that happened yesterday. He said that this matter should be thoroughly investigated and this investigation should be under the supervision of an existing judge. He also criticized the government and the administration in this matter and said that no attention is being paid to the cleanliness of the statue. The dust and soil is badly frozen on the platform of the statue. He said that those who put pictures of the Constitution maker in the offices should also pay attention to this aspect.
The incident happened on the occasion of Republic Day
This incident took place yesterday afternoon on January 26, Republic Day, when the arrested youth, with the help of a ladder located here, Dr. Climbed on the statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar and tried to break it with a hammer and insult it. Meanwhile, the personal security personnel and some other persons immediately arrested the accused there. He was allegedly beaten up and later handed over to the police.
Why the accused did this, this matter is currently the subject of investigation. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the matter is being thoroughly investigated by the police teams. He has appealed to the organizations calling for the bandh to maintain peace.
Yesterday, when the information about this incident came to the organizations related to the Dalit community, they strongly opposed it and even staged a dharna. After getting information about the incident, Member of Parliament Aujla, Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha and Congress MLA Pratap Singh Bajwa also reached the spot. Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal and other AAP leaders also reached here during the night.
Meanwhile, leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal Sukhbir Singh Badal, Bikram Singh Majitha and other political parties have also strongly condemned this incident. Yesterday, when this incident happened, BJP leader Vijay Sampla pointed out this place in the corridor and said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee was responsible for this matter, but soon after the Secretary of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Pratap Singh clarified the matter and said that the place is Nagar. It is under the management of the corporation.
