A total of 589 candidates have remained in the fray for the Amritsar Municipal Corporation and the five municipal panchayats and municipal council elections of the district today after the withdrawal of nomination papers. Today, nomination papers of 218 candidates have been withdrawn while nomination papers of 78 candidates were rejected yesterday.
Amritsar Municipal Corporation has 85 wards and 709 candidates filed nomination papers for its elections. During the document verification yesterday, the nomination papers of 53 candidates were rejected leaving 656 candidates in the fray. After the date of withdrawal of nomination papers passed today, 477 candidates are left in the fray. Today, nomination papers have been withdrawn from 179 candidates.
According to the government official, 68 candidates filed nomination papers for 13 wards of Nagar Panchayat Baba Bakala, out of which 14 candidates’ nomination papers were rejected and today 10 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers. After this, 44 candidates have remained in the fray.
Nomination papers were filed by six candidates for one ward of Nagar Panchayat Raya and none of the candidates’ nomination papers were rejected and no candidate withdrew their nomination papers. Now there are six candidates in the fray.
There were 74 candidates in the fray for 13 wards of Nagar Panchayat Raja Sansi, out of which the nomination papers of ten candidates were rejected and today after the withdrawal of nomination papers by 20 candidates, 44 candidates are left in the fray.
There were seven candidates in the fray for a ward of Municipal Council Majitha, out of which the nomination paper of one was rejected and today no one has withdrawn the nomination paper, now there are six candidates in the fray. 21 candidates were in the fray for two wards of Nagar Panchayat Ajnala and no one’s nomination paper was rejected yesterday. Today, nine candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers, leaving 12 candidates in the fray.
After the withdrawal of nomination papers, 477 candidates are in the fray for the Amritsar Municipal Corporation election and 112 candidates are in the fray for the five Nagar Panchayats of rural areas.
