Due to the gentle behavior of Mayor candidate Satyaprakash Choudhary, other councilors including Congress had given their support to him. However, councilors’ opinion was taken regarding this. After much brainstorming, Congress also surprised Satyaprakash Chaudhary by supporting him for the post of Mayor. In Ludhiana, where Congress, BJP and other political parties were facing each other regarding the formation of the city government, everyone together approved the name of Satyaprakash Chaudhary for the post of Mayor. According to Akali Dal, Satyaprakash Chaudhary was a BJP candidate who was supported by Congress and others. This decision was taken unanimously.

In the year 1997, the number of wards of the corporation was 60.

According to experts, in 1991-92 the number of wards of the Municipal Corporation was 50. In the year 1997, considering the population, it was decided to increase the number of wards. The number of wards of the Municipal Corporation was increased to 60 due to fresh ward restrictions.

After this, the number of wards was again increased in the year 2007. This time the number was increased to 75. In the year 2017, it was again agreed to increase the number of wards. The government increased the number of wards to 95.

In the year 2018, Municipal Corporation Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu was elected. All the above mayors have held the post of mayor only once.
