Amaravati, 19 December
The Andhra Pradesh High Court (Andhra Pradesh High Court) has upheld the right of same-sex young couples to live together and said that anyone has the freedom to choose their life partner. A bench of Justice R Raghunandan Rao and K Maheswara Rao passed the order on a habeas corpus petition filed by a young woman named Kavita (name changed) to produce her partner Lalita (name changed). He has pronounced while hearing the habeas corpus petition.
In this petition, the petitioner Kavita had alleged that her partner Lalitha was being held captive by her father against her will at his house in Narasipatnam. The court on Tuesday ordered Lalitha’s parents not to interfere in the couple’s relationship, saying their daughter is an adult and can take her own decisions. It is to be noted that the couple has been ‘living together’ in Vijayawada for the past one year.
Based on an earlier missing complaint filed by Kavita, the police found Lilta at her father’s house and freed her. After that, she was kept in a welfare home for 15 days, though she came clean to the police. C that she is an adult and wants to live with her partner (Kavita).
Lalita had also filed a complaint against her father in September saying that her parents were harassing her over relationship and other issues. After police intervention, Lalitha returned to Vijayawada and started going to work, often visiting her partner. However, Lalita’s father once again came to her house and forcibly took her daughter away in a vehicle. Kavita then filed a habeas corpus petition against Lalita’s father, alleging that she has been detained “illegally”. -News-Patiala
