Apple, which was already lagging behind in the AI race, has suffered another major setback. Ke Yang, head of Apple’s AI search project, has left the company and will now join Meta. Yang was promoted a few weeks ago to head the company’s new Answers, Knowledge and Information (AKI) group. His departure will have a big impact on the company’s plans to upgrade Siri. Yang was working on Siri’s project
Apple had recently formed AKI Group and handed over its command to Yang and he was reporting to the Senior Vice President of the company’s Machine Learning and AI Strategy department. Before his promotion, Yang was leading AKI’s search department. After the promotion, Yang’s team was given the responsibility of making Siri as functional as ChatGPT. Let us tell you that Apple has been struggling to upgrade Siri for a long time. The company plans to launch the upgraded version of Siri by March next year.
Meta is hiring heavily
On one hand, while Apple’s senior executives are continuously leaving their jobs, on the other hand, Meta is hiring heavily. To work on AI, Meta is continuously expanding its Superintelligence Labs division. In this series, the company has hired top talent from big companies like OpenAI, Google Deepmind, Anthropic and Apple. Zuckerberg himself is monitoring the hiring process. In the last few months, Meta has added 50 AI experts. This week, Meta gave a big blow to Meera Murthy by hiring Andrew Tullock, a co-founder of her startup Thinking Machine Lab.
