Appeal to Trump for the protection of minorities in Bangladesh

People from the American Hindu, Buddhist and Christian communities of Bangladeshi origin in the United States appealed to the newly elected President Donald Trump to intervene in the ongoing atrocities against religious and ethnic minorities in Bangladesh. He appealed to Trump to help them in Bangladesh for their security. Urging Trump to ensure the immediate release of Hindu saint Chinmay Krishna Das, the group said the threat of extremism was growing in Bangladesh. In the memorandum named after Trump, he has suggested linking Bangladesh’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations with the elimination of internal ethnic and religious persecution. According to a statement issued to the press, the manifesto also proposes a comprehensive minority protection law to officially recognize minorities and indigenous peoples there.

According to the statement, the main recommendations include establishment of safe zones for minority communities, provision of separate elections for minorities and legislation against inciting crime and hate speech to protect religious customs and cultural heritage. -News-Patiala
