Apple App Store: Apple released a new study on Monday which has been prepared by Professor Vishwanath Pingali of Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Management (IIM). In this study, the economic impact of Apple App Store Ecosystem in India is mentioned in India. According to the report, around Rs 44,447 crore ($ 5.31 billion) was developed and sold in India through the App Store in India. The special thing is that 94% of this earnings got directly developers and businesses of different sizes i.e. Apple did not take any commission on it.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said, “App Store has proved to be an economic miracle for Indian developers and innovators around the world. This study shows the power of India’s very vibrant app economy. We will continue to invest to convert the dreams of developers into reality.”
The path of new opportunities for developers
This study, called “The Apple Ecosystem in India: its value to developers and users”, states that since the introduction of APP Store, Indian developers have prepared new methods of earning from their apps in categories like gaming, health-fitness, lifestyle and utility, which has prepared a strong digital ecosterphism.
According to the report, in 2024, about 80% of Indian developers earned from foreign users. Apart from this, 87% of Indian developers were active on more than one marketplace. The apps of Indian developers were downloaded 75.5 million times in 2024, which is doubled compared to five years ago. Also, Indian apps made it to the top 100 in more than 70 international markets.
Small developers also benefit
Between 2021 and 2024, the App Store of small developers in India recorded an increase of 74%. Interactions like Apple’s Small Business Program gave small developers a chance to move forward with low commission rates. Apple has also established a new developer center in Bengaluru, where developers get training, support and access to more than 2.5 lakh APIs which include framework like Healthkit, Metal and Core Ml. Between 2020 and 2023, Apple has prevented a possible fraud of more than $ 7 billion with a $ 1.8 billion fraud in 2023 alone.
