Apple Airlifts iPhones From India To US: The news that has created a stir in the world of technology has come out. Apple has shown 600 tonnes of iPhone from India to avoid heavy tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump. According to reports, these iPhones have been sent to the US through special air cargo flights.
It is clear from this strategy of Apple that it is trying to save the inventory of iPhone in its biggest market -America – from the tariff of Trump. Experts believe that if the tariff was effective, the prices of iPhone could have increased considerably in the US. The average packing weight of the iPhone is approximately 350 grams, and thus 600 tons means that about 1.5 million iPhone have been sent to America.
Sunday work is also being done in Foxconn Factory
Apple has increased its iPhone production in India very fast. Especially in the FoxConn plant in Chennai in Tamil Nadu, work has been done very fast. The factory created more than 2 crore iPhone last year, including the latest iPhone 15 and 16 series. The special thing is that the factory is now working on Sunday, which is usually a holiday. It is clear from this that Apple is now taking India seriously as an alternative to China.
Green Corridor built at Chennai Airport
According to a senior official, Apple has spoken to Indian airport officials and reduced the custom clearance time from 30 hours to only 6 hours. A “Green Corridor” system was created for this at Chennai Airport.
What was Trump’s tariff and its effect?
The Trump administration increased the tariff from 54% to 125% on goods imported from China. This directly affected companies like Apple, whose large part of the supply chain is in China. Due to increase in tariffs, high-end devices like iPhone 16 Pro Max could increase from $ 1,599 to $ 2,300. So Apple chose India as an alternative and started exporting fast. Import from India is only 26% tariff, which is much less than China. This is the reason why Apple gave priority to direct shipment from India.
India becomes Apple’s new manufacturing hub
India’s stake in Apple’s supply chain is now increasing continuously. According to the Counterpoint Research, now the fifth of the total import of iPhone in the US comes from India. Apple’s main partners like Foxconn and Tata are now working together in India. They have three factories together and two new factories are being made. Apple is also getting full support from the government. According to reports, PM Modi’s government had asked the officials to help Apple, so that there is no obstruction in fast custom clearance and shipment.
