A total of 21 students from a government school in Chamarajanagar, Karnataka withdrew their admissions because a Dalit woman was appointed to make mid-day meal. The district administration has currently convinced the parents of 8 children to get admission back to the school. Further investigation is being done.

For the academic year 2024-25, 22 students were admitted in the school. Now when a Dalit woman was kept in school to cook, the parents of 21 students have decided not to send the school. There is now only one student left in the school.

Admitted to another school

The case is of Government Higher Primary School in Homma village, Chamarajanagar. Dalit women and other employees working in the kitchen say that only 7 out of 22 children used to eat mid-day meal made in school.

In such a situation, it is believed that the parents of most children were not happy about the cooking caste. For this reason, he got his children’s name cut off from school.

Unhappy with the appointment of a Dalit woman, many parents have also taken the transfer certificate of children from the school i.e. TC and have admitted the children to another school.

12 out of 21 students have taken TC and the rest have submitted applications for TC. The result is that only one child studies in school and the school may soon be closed.

1 student in school, 2 teachers

Local people say that there is discrimination behind caste behind cutting names from school. The school now has only one student and 2 teachers to teach her. The parents of the last students have also submitted the application for TC.

After this, this entire incident went viral on social media. On Wednesday, the district administration reached Homma village and held a meeting with teachers and parents. Officials of the Education Department and Department of Social Welfare also visited the village.

Criminals of untouchability will get punishment- Chamarajanagar SP

SP BT Kavita of Chamarajanagar, CEO Mona Rot of Zilla Panchayat and DDPI Ramchandra Raje Urs spoke to parents and teachers in the matter. Parents said during this time that due to poor education in school, they have got their children’s names cut from there. This team of officials has also convinced the parents of 8 children to get admission back to the school.

SP Kavita said that it will also be investigated why some children were not eating mid-day meal in school. If it is found that untouchability is the reason for this, then action will be taken against the people concerned.
