Attack on Indian consulate vehicle in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, 1 dead, 2 injured

There has been a terrible attack on the vehicle of the Indian Consulate in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. The security guard of local staff Wadood Khan has died in the attack and two people including Wadood Khan have been injured. According to reports, unidentified gunmen attacked the Afghan employees attached to the closed Indian consulate in Jalalabad, Afghanistan on Tuesday. Sources in India said that the government is monitoring the situation. He confirmed that no Indian jawan was killed or injured.

The Indian consulate in Jalalabad has been officially closed since 2020, but a small staff of Afghan locals works there. According to local media reports and unverified social media posts, three people died and one was injured in the incident. However, there is no official statement about casualties. Tuesday’s incident is being treated as a targeted attack, although no group has claimed responsibility as of writing this report.

The Indian Consulate in Jalalabad is largely closed since 2020. When the Indian government decided to shut down its full-scale operations amid security concerns. However, a small team of Afghan nationals continues to oversee the consulate’s limited operations.
