Farmers driving tractor on pink bollworm affected crop in Wajidke Khurd.

Farmers are continuously plowing the wheat crop affected by the attack of pink borm by running tractors. Today, two farmers ran tractors on their crops in village Wajidke Khurd and Amala Singh Wala in Barnala district.

Lakkha Singh, a farmer of Wajidke village, said that his two acres of wheat crop has been eaten away by the pink insect. Since there is no solution for this, he is forced to plant the crop. Meanwhile, farmer Darshan Singh of Amala Singh Wala said that the wheat field has been ruined due to pink bollworm. Which will now be plowed and wheat will be sown afresh.

Both the farmers say that sowing wheat without burning the stubble as per the instructions of the government has become a costly deal for them. The cost of wheat seeds, sowing, spray etc. has doubled. For which the government has not taken any action till now.

BKU Dakaunda district leader Jagraj Singh Hardaspura and block president Nanak Singh said that the government and administration, which imposed fine on stubble burning, should now compensate the farmers suffering from bollworm. He said that if the economic losses of the farmers are not compensated then the organization will be forced to fight.
