22-year-old Arshpreet Kaur, resident of Bhadaud, had an affair with Balwinder Singh, resident of Baba Farid Nagar, Bathinda, about two and a half months ago. The girl’s family got information from her in-laws that Arshpreet committed suicide by hanging herself on Sunday.

Sonu Maheshwari, president of social service organization Youth Welfare Society Bathinda, said that Arshpreet Kaur’s maternal family alleged that the in-laws of the deceased girl used to harass her for dowry. Due to non-payment of dowry, she was strangled to death. At the same time, Cantt police station has registered a case on the basis of the statements of the relatives of the deceased and started investigation. The police have taken the body to the civil hospital for post-mortem.

Manphool Singh, investigating officer of the police station Cantt, said that on the basis of the statements of the maternal family members of the deceased Arshpreet Kaur, a case has been registered against the accused in-laws and investigation has been started.
