According to this study published in the journal Nature Communications, increased levels of estrogen can greatly increase the desire to drink alcohol in women. “We know very little about the reasons behind drinking behavior in women because most studies on alcohol consumption have been done on men,” says Dr. Kristen Pleil, lead author of the study.
