Vijayawada, 26 December
An excellent example of the right use of technology has emerged in Andhra Pradesh, successfully reuniting 10 missing children with their parents during the Bhavani Diksha Viramana event in Vijayawada. Here, the district administration applied QR code using technology and tied bands equipped with QR code on the wrists of children under five years of age.
Around 60 teams were deployed by the ICDS department at various locations including queues at railway stations, bus stands and entry points of the city during the event. They were tasked with checking every child entering the city and wearing a QR-coded tag on their wrists.
While tying the band, details of child and parent along with mobile number were added to the QR code and stored in the server. If the child is lost during the event, anyone who sees the child can scan the wrist tag to get the contact of the parents and contact them directly to hand over the children.
It is worth mentioning that this time around 12,000 children were tagged in the event. About 10 children were traced and sent to their parents by the police stationed on duty in 5 days. –ANI
