US President Joe Biden has honored a total of 19 people including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, football superstar Lionel Messi, controversial socialite George Soros and actor Denzel Washington with the country’s highest civilian award ‘Presidential Medal of Freedom’. This award is given to those individuals who have made significant contributions to the prosperity of the United States, its values and global peace, or who have done important work in the public or private sector. Argentine soccer player Lionel Messi was not personally present at the White House to receive the award due to pre-scheduled events. During the ceremony in the East Room of the White House, Biden said, “For the last time as president, I have the opportunity to honor extraordinary people with the nation’s highest civilian honor.” People who contributed to shaping the culture and purpose of America.
