Women World Cup: Australia’s charismatic captain Alyssa Healy practiced hard here on Tuesday as she completed her fitness test ahead of the Women’s World Cup semi-final against India.
The 35-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman was ruled out of the league matches against England and South Africa after picking up a cage injury during practice. Tahlia McGrath took over for the seven-time champion in her place.
Healy has been in excellent form in the tournament, scoring centuries in consecutive matches against India and Bangladesh. Australia topped the points table after a clean sweep of the league matches.
On Healy’s injury, the ICC said, ‘Australian captain Alyssa Healy trained hard two days ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 semi-final match against India on Tuesday (October 28).’
According to information shared by the ICC, ‘Healy showed positive signs in Mumbai that his health is rapidly improving.’ He passed a fitness test at the start of the practice session and then completed his net session by taking part in wicketkeeping drills. He also took batting practice against the net bowlers.
Australia head coach Shelley Nitschke said before the match against South Africa in Indore that he hoped Healy would be fully fit before the semi-finals.
Healy’s best performance in this World Cup came against India. Chasing a target of 331 runs, he scored a magnificent 142 runs to lead Australia to victory.
