Smartphone addiction is worrying many people. If children develop this addiction, the consequences can be even more dangerous. A recent study has revealed that children who use phones at a young age may be prone to several health problems. Such children may face problems like lack of sleep and anxiety. Therefore, parents should avoid giving phones to children at a young age.
A study conducted in the United States revealed that children who used mobile phones before the age of 12 faced problems such as sleep deprivation, weight gain, anxiety and depression. According to the study, phones interfere with children’s daily activities, leading to other problems. Children with phones often start scrolling through social media apps at night and sleep less. Screen time can inhibit physical activity. Moreover, the negativity of social media affects children’s brains in ways that their minds cannot comprehend. Studies have shown that children under the age of 12 are learning many things and are unable to separate themselves from the reality they see on social media. If they are given smartphones at a young age, many of their skills may not be developed.
Many parents, due to safety or other concerns, are unable to avoid giving their children smartphones. For such parents, experts advise keeping phones away from their children at bedtime, setting a limit on their screen time and encouraging them to play outside.
