Shahrukh Khan-Salman Khan have been releasing their films during the festive season, but the box office records of many stars’ movies proved to be dwarf in front of a film released on Diwali. When Vinod Khanna starrer film was released on Diwali of 1978, there was a queue outside the ticket window throughout the night. After 17 years, the record of that memorable film was broken by Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’.
New Delhi: Some films including Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ were released on Diwali. He is considered the box office king. But, when it comes to the biggest hits of Diwali, Shahrukh Khan’s films prove to be dwarf in front of them. The popularity of that film was such that people used to camp there even before the ticket window opened, standing in queues throughout the night to buy tickets.
More than 7 crore tickets were sold
Based on the inflation of 2024, the collection of the film in 2024 should be more than Rs 800 crore, which is more than the collection of Shahrukh Khan’s films like ‘Pathan’, ‘Jawaan’, ‘Animal’ and ‘Gadar 2’. According to IMDb report, ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ sold 7 crore tickets in India. Since then only two films have crossed this figure. ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ and ‘Bahubali 2: The Conclusion’.
‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ breaks record
The Diwali collection record of the film ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ remained for 17 years, which was broken by ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’. But ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ was made with a budget of only Rs 1 crore, which makes it the most profitable film released on Diwali. Apart from Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Rekha, Rakhi, Nirupa Roy, Amjad Khan and Ranjeet were in important roles in ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’. The film is an all-time blockbuster. The film was such a big hit that people used to stand in queues to buy tickets for the film. Many times the crowd used to sleep outside the cinema hall the whole night waiting for tickets.
