Chandigarh, December 12
The opposition BJP staged a dharna in front of the office of Mayor Kuldeep Kumar of the India Alliance in the matter of soil being dug up from the Patiala Ki Rao river in Chandigarh and thrown in the Dussehra ground of village Dhanas. Apart from BJP councillors, BJP leaders and nominated councilors also participated in this protest. Avoiding this matter, the Mayor has ordered an investigation into the whole matter of soil digging and has called for its report soon. It is worth mentioning that the Kabaddi tournament is to be held in the Dussehra ground of village Dhanas. It is alleged that soil is being dug up from the Rao of Patiala without permission and is being dumped in the ground here through the tippers of the Corporation. There is a discussion that this work was done at the behest of the Mayor, while Mayor Kuldeep Kumar has flatly denied it. On the other hand, the nominated councilors representing the administration in the meetings of the Corporation House participated in the protest. In fact, most of the nominated councilors are holding one or the other position in the opposition party BJP. This is the reason why they have to play a dual role. Opposition BJP senior deputy mayor Kuljit Singh sat on a dharna outside the mayor’s office. The senior deputy along with fellow councilors raised slogans. The senior deputy mayor alleged that action should be taken against the mayor for illegal mining. He said that regarding this he will also meet the administrator’s adviser and demand the use of government machinery for illegal mining and take action against the mayor.
