Around 40 schools in Delhi received a bomb threat mail on Monday morning, in which the sender demanded $30,000. Police officials said the threat was sent in an e-mail addressed to prominent schools in the city, including DPS RK Puram. He said most of the schools that received the threat suspended their classes and sent students back home. A Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official said they received the first alert about the bomb threat from DPS RK Puram (7.06 am) and GD Goenka Paschim Vihar (6.15 am).
He said that bomb detection teams, fire officials, local police immediately started searching the schools. At around 9.30 am, a police officer said that nothing suspicious has been found yet. He said that further action is ongoing.
Sources said that the e-mail was delivered to the ID of the schools at 11.38 pm on Sunday, when the schools were closed. The email read, “I have planted several bombs inside the building. Bombs are small and very well hidden. It will not cause much damage to the building, but when the bomb explodes, many people will be injured”. The email also said, “If I don’t get $30,000, you all deserve to suffer and lose limbs.
