After Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation as leader of the Liberal Party on January 6, many considered becoming the leader, but could not make up their minds. Now only former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland and former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney remain in the field. These two leaders will start their campaign from Sunday. The fate of both will be decided by a majority of the party members on March 9. The two leaders have started promoting the work to be done before becoming the next leader and Prime Minister of the party.
Chrystia Freeland says that she will prioritize taking the burden of the carbon tax off the shoulders of the people, while Mark Carney, who is considered to be an economic expert, is claiming that he will take the country’s economy higher. He says, “What we have, they will not make the mistake of taking support by assuring that it will be distributed among the weak people of the society.” There is goodness in being promised. He said that after becoming the Prime Minister, he will focus his priority on strengthening the country’s economy. He attacked the claims of Tory Party President Pier Polivar and said that governments cannot be run by just talking.
Some Liberal MPs have even launched a campaign in support of Mark Carney. Members of Parliament from Surrey Sukh Dhaliwal and Randeep Singh Sarai are creating a movement in favor of Mark Carney by sending internet links to their supporters. Political pundits are pointing towards Mark Carney becoming the leader.
