- CBI’s Bharatpol Portal Launched; Indonesia Becomes Full Member Of BRICS; PLI Scheme Launched For Steel Industry

Amit Shah launches BHARATPOL portal created by CBI. The 8th IndusFood 2025 exhibition will start in Greater Noida. Apart from this, the central government issued PLI scheme for steel production and Indonesia became a full member of BRICS group.

NATIONAL
1. BHARATPOL portal created by CBI launched: Home Minister Amit Shah today launched the Bharatpol portal developed by CBI on 7 January.
Amit Shah said that Indian agencies will use the modern technology of the portal to catch fugitive criminals.
- During this event held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, Amit Shah also gave police medals to 35 CBI officers for their service.
- With the help of Bharatpol portal, India’s investigative agencies will be able to connect with foreign agencies and Interpol.
- Bharatpol portal is connected to the official website of CBI. Indian investigative agency CBI works like the National Control Bureau for Interpol.
- Police of all states will be able to connect with Interpol on Bharatpol portal. With the help of the portal, notices like Red Corner of Interpol can be issued.
2. Review of Petroleum Ministry continues: On January 7, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry released the review for the year 2024.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was started from Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh in May 2016. Under this, government subsidy is available on domestic gas cylinders.
- It was told that so far 10.33 crore LPG connections have been given under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. The total LPG connections in the country are 32.83 crore.
- In the year 2014, there were a total of 14.52 crore LPG connections in the country.
- Around 13 lakh gas cylinders are refilled daily across the country. The annual consumption of domestic gas in the country is 3.95 kg per person.
- The operational gas pipeline across the country has reached 24,945 kilometers. There were 15,340 kilometers of gas pipelines in 2014.
- E20 petrol (20% ethanol blended) is available at 17,400 petrol tanks i.e. retail outlets across the country.
3. 8th edition of IndusFood 2025 will start in Greater Noida: The 8th session of IndusFood 2025 will be held in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, adjacent to Delhi, from 8 to 10 January 2025.
Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) started IndusFood Exhibition in 2017.
- Union Food Minister Chirag Paswan will inaugurate it. Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) organizes this exhibition.
- From January 9 to 11, TPCI will organize two more events named IndusFood Manufacturing and IndusFood AgriTech.
- 2,300 people from more than 30 countries will participate in the exhibition at IndusFood 2025.
- More than 7,500 international buyers, 15,000 Indian buyers, presidents of more than 30 international chef organizations and 100 Indian delegates will participate in the event.
- This event helps Indian food companies to reach their products to foreign markets.
- IndusFood will also host the ‘Asia President’s Forum’ for the first time in collaboration with the Indian Culinary Association (IFCA) under 2025.
4. Union Steel Minister released PLI scheme for steel production: Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy launched the PLI scheme for steel ‘PLI Scheme 1.1’.
The Steel Ministry says that in the first round, incentives worth about Rs 2,000 crore will be given to the companies.
- Under this scheme, the government gives incentives to companies on production to reduce imports and increase steel-related production.
- ‘PLI Scheme 1.1’ is for FY 2025-26 to 2029-30.
- Under this scheme, incentives are available on products of 5 categories.
- These categories are- Coated Steel Products, High Strength Steel, Specialty Rail, Alloy Steel Products and Electrical Steel.
- Rs 6,322 crore will be spent under the scheme.
5. India will host technical seminars of 31 countries: On January 20 and 21, 2025, India will host a technical seminar on social security of informal workers.
Union Labor and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State in the Ministry Shobha Karandlaje will participate in this program being held at Yashobhoomi.
- This seminar will be jointly organized by the Ministry of Labor and Employment and the International Social Security Association.
- The program will be held at Yashobhoomi International Convention Centre, Delhi.
- In the seminar, 40 experts from 31 countries of Asia and Pacific region will discuss issues related to social security of workers.
- Organizations like World Bank, International Labor Organization, UN India will give their presentations.
- The Government of India’s Finance Ministry, External Affairs Ministry, NITI Aayog, Health Ministry and many states will participate in it.

6. Indonesia becomes full member of BRICS group: Indonesia has become a full member of BRICS, a group of developing countries. BRICS chair country Brazil announced this on Monday January 6, 2024.

- Now BRICS includes 10 countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, UAE and Indonesia.
- Brazil takes over the chairmanship of BRICS on 1 January 2025. He will hold this responsibility till the end of this year.
- Indonesia’s candidature to become a member of BRICS had received the support of BRICS countries in 2023 itself. It had decided to join BRICS after the formation of the new government in 2024.
- The objective of the countries included in BRICS is to promote mutual peace, security, development and cooperation.

7. South Africa beat Pakistan, Afghanistan beat Zimbabwe in Test series: Afghanistan defeated Zimbabwe and won the series 1-0. Whereas South Africa defeated Pakistan and won the series 2-0.
Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, who took 7 wickets in the second innings against Zimbabwe, became the ‘Player of the Match’.
- Afghanistan’s batsman Rahmat Shah was elected ‘Player of the Series’.
- The first test of the series was a draw.
- South Africa defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets in the second test and won the series 2-0.
- South Africa’s opener Ryan Rickelton, who scored 259 runs in the first innings, was the player of the match. Marco Jansson, who took 10 wickets, was chosen as ‘Player of the Series’.
- South Africa won the first test by 2 wickets.
