CBSE News Exclusive: The Central Board of Secondary Education is implementing major changes in teaching and examination methods. The old practice of just ratting will end. Under the New National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, CBSE will soon launch a new online platform. This platform will assess students’ understanding of the subjects and how they can apply that knowledge in real life. It will help prepare students for 21st century skills.
In this new plan of CBSE, exams will be considered as an essential part of education and not just a last resort. NEP 2020 recommends changes in assessment methodology. This new platform will administer a unique test called SAFAL (Structured Assessment for Learning Analysis) for all students of classes 3, 5 and 8. SAFAL aims to assess children’s basic understanding and thinking skills. This will help schools identify areas where students need more attention.
New Exam Methodology: Focus on Merit
The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) clearly states that the examination system will help children progress and not just test their memory. Central Board of Secondary Education is working keeping this in mind. It has already introduced a competency-based assessment framework for classes 6 to 10. It lays more emphasis on core subjects like Science, Mathematics and English.
SAFAL: Test your understanding
SAFAL assessment being introduced for class 3rd, 5th and 8th is an important initiative:
Objective: It will primarily test children’s key concepts, appropriate application of knowledge and their ability to think quickly.
Online Method: This assessment will be conducted on an online platform, which ensures quick and accurate results.
Benefit: Schools will get accurate diagnostic information about children’s weaknesses. This will allow them to provide targeted interventions and improve their classroom teaching methods.
Continuous monitoring of children’s progress
This CBSE initiative is not a one-time reform but a deliberate plan to continuously improve the quality of education. The data generated from this digital assessment will be used to improve learning outcomes. Teachers are asked to use the SAFAL report to support the class and communicate effectively with parents. In the future, software like artificial intelligence (AI) will also monitor the progress of children and help them choose the right career path.
