Qadian, December 8

Opposition leader Pratap Singh Bajwa has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Haryana government for once again resorting to police excesses to suppress the peaceful foot march of Punjab farmers. He said that the BJP government of Haryana has created a barricading like an international border with the deployment of heavy police on Shambhu border as if Punjab is not a part of this country. By doing this, the BJP government at the Center and Haryana is creating a sense of alienation among the Punjabi farmers.

The senior Congress leader said that many farmers have been injured due to the repressive BJP government once again firing tear gas shells on Punjabi farmers. Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini has clearly crossed all limits. If farmers cannot even protest peacefully in their own country, what rights do they have in a democratic structure like ours?

Kadi MLA Bajwa urged the central government to hold talks with the farmers and discuss their demands. The BJP government is reneging on its promise to legalize the minimum support price for crops as per the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission. Instead of inviting a discussion on the long-pending demands, the BJP government is firing tear gas shells on the farmers which is condemnable.
