Center failed to ensure safety of women: Kejriwal


New Delhi, December 16

Aam Aadmi Party chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today accused the BJP-led central government of failing in its responsibility to ensure the safety of women and maintain law and order in the national capital. has failed Addressing the ‘Mahila Adalat’ program at Thyagaraj Stadium, Kejriwal claimed that BJP does not prioritize women’s safety while his government has fulfilled all its promises.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh were also present in the event. Kejriwal said, “Ten years ago you gave me the responsibility of improving schools, hospitals and water supply in Delhi and I did my duty. But you gave the responsibility of security to BJP and Amit Shah, who failed to fulfill it.” The former chief minister said, “Women of Delhi are not a vote bank for me. I see them as my mothers and sisters. I did everything in my power to ensure their safety. Before AAP came to power, there were no CCTV cameras in the city. We have installed CCTV cameras and deployed marshals in the buses to increase the safety of the people.

The event was held on the 12th anniversary of the 2012 gang rape in Delhi, in which hundreds of women raised slogans of ‘Nirbhaya Amar Rahe’ and ‘Mahila Shakti Zindabad’. Survivors of sexual assault shared their bitter experiences on the occasion, many of whom became emotional while addressing the gathering. Meanwhile, a video highlighting crimes against women based on the TV program ‘Aap Di Adalat’ was also shown, in which Union Home Minister Amit Shah was accused of not taking any action regarding the safety of women. -News-Patiala
