Punjab Mandi Board Chairman and Aam Aadmi Party General Secretary Harchand Singh Burst participated in the National Conference held in Jodhpur (Rajasthan) on the topic of Modernization of Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market.
While discussing the demands and problems of the Punjabi province, he asked the central government to coordinate with the state governments to conduct a national level survey on the production and consumption of the commodity and take the arms of the states to upgrade the agriculture and market system. Mr. Burst said that nowadays markets need to be upgraded. It is important to transport the produce of the farmer from his field to the market and to the consumer’s house in a clean manner. Therefore, we all should pay attention to the modernization of markets under one plan. He said that in today’s scientific era, there is neither proper seed nor soil testing. At present, the rules for handling fruits and vegetables are not being followed nor are the rules for marketing being followed. In this situation neither the farmer nor the Mandi Board can do all this for which the help of the Center is needed.
