Central government should ensure the safety of minorities in Bangladesh: Mamata Banerjee

Attacks on Minorities in Bangladesh: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday asserted that the central government should provide protection to minorities in violence-hit Bangladesh and those belonging to minority communities who want to return to India from Bangladesh. They should be brought to India.

Mamata Banerjee also claimed that fake videos are being spread deliberately in the region, as some sections are trying to incite communal tension. Talking to reporters here, he said, “We want the protection of minorities in Bangladesh. Central government should take action. The government should also bring back those people who want to come back to India.” It is to be noted that the Chief Minister is on a two-day visit to Digha to review the construction work of the Jagannath Temple.

It is to be noted that after the fall of the Awami League government of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, there have been large-scale attacks on the minorities, especially the Hindu community, in Bangladesh. It is to be noted that the population of Hindus in Bangladesh is about 17 crores and they form about 8 percent of the total population of the country. Meanwhile, the Hindu community has faced attacks in more than 50 districts.
