SAS Nagar (Mohali), 15 December
A team led by the President of the Consumer Protection Federation, Engineer PS Virdi, visited their market (vegetable market) weekly to observe the price of vegetables. He said that complaints were being received by the vendors of vegetables and fruits regarding charging higher than the prescribed rates and arbitrary rates from the people. These complaints were inspected by the Sambdhi Federation President Engineer PS Virdi, Niranjan Singh Chhabra, Jai Singh Senhbi and Mandi Board Supervisors Gagandeep Singh and Prem Sharma along with Sector-68 Mandi. The spokesperson of the organization said that during the checking, it was observed that many shopkeepers were charging double the rates and 35 to 50 percent more for essential items of daily use such as ginger, lemon, cauliflower, tomato, coriander etc. On this occasion, the supervisory staff of the Mandi Board issued challans to the shopkeepers who charged higher rates and fines were collected on the spot. He sternly reprimanded the vegetable market shopkeepers that if they are caught doing so again during checking, they (those violating the rules) will not be allowed to sit in the vegetable markets in future.
