The Bangladeshi court has again rejected the bail application of Chinmay Krishna Das, a Hindu religious leader and representative of Bangladesh inclusive Sanatan Jagran Jot. Das, who was arrested on charges of sedition, is in jail.
According to local media reports, Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Muhammad Saiful Islam, who is on vacation, said in an order issued on Wednesday that Das’s bail application is rejected as he does not have a lawyer’s letter of attorney. The next hearing on the petition will now be held on January 2. In the same petition, it is claimed that Das, who is suffering from diabetes and respiratory diseases, has been arrested in a false case.
The petition said that Das’s lawyer Shubashish Sharma could not appear at the hearing on December 3 due to security reasons. The hearing on the bail application of two other accused in this case was also scheduled for Wednesday, but could not be held due to the absence of the lawyer. – IANS
