Punjab Weather Update: In Punjab, the new year started with bitter cold and fog. The Meteorological Department has issued yellow alert in 14 districts today. The temperature has increased by 0.2 degrees in the last 24 hours.
However, it is 5.1 degrees less than the normal mercury of the state. The highest mercury was recorded at 15 degrees in Gurdaspur. While in Chandigarh, a significant drop in mercury has been recorded. The mercury has been recorded at 11.8 degrees here. Which is eight degrees lower than normal.
On the other hand, the districts in which there is a cold alert today include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Muktsar Sahib, Faridkot, Moga, Bathinda, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala and Mohali.
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will be very cold till January 3. This is due to a weak Western Disturbance over Afghanistan. While Western Disturbance will be active on January 4. In such a situation, there is a possibility of cloudy sky and rain in some districts. However, during this time people will get relief from fog etc.
Due to cold and fog in Punjab, the government has extended the holidays of schools and Anganwadi centers. Earlier, schools and Anganwadi centers were to open on December 31. But after taking stock of the situation, the government has extended the holiday till January 7. Now all establishments will open on January 8. Meanwhile, ration will also be provided to the children of the Anganwadi centers at home. Orders have also been issued by the department in this regard.
