Collision between two boats on Mumbai coast, 13 dead

Thirteen people were killed while 99 people were rescued after a Navy speed boat collided with another boat off the Mumbai coast today. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while talking to reporters in Nagpur said that a Navy jawan is also included in the dead. Fadnavis said that when the boat named Neelkamal was heading towards Elephanta Island, a famous tourist spot near Mumbai, a Navy speed boat collided with it at around 4 pm. He did not say how many people were on board the boats. A Defense Ministry official said that the Navy and the Coast Guard have launched a large-scale relief and rescue operation at the incident site. He said that 11 boats of the Navy, three boats of the Marine Police and one boat of the Coast Guard are being used in the rescue operation. The official said that the help of four helicopters is also being taken for the search and rescue operation. He said that police, employees of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and fishermen of the area are involved in relief and rescue operations. -News-Patiala
