Sangrur, 15 December
Hundreds of computer teachers, including women, who stood on the front near the Chief Minister’s residence, spent the night under the open sky by placing beds on the road despite the cold. Computer teachers protesting on the road announced that they will return home only after the implementation of the Finance Minister’s promise to restore the stalled Dearness Allowance (DA) by December 12. The computer teachers alleged that last night the administration did not give permission to put up tents for spending the night, due to which hundreds of teachers are stuck under the open sky. It may be mentioned that the last day under the flag of the Sangharsh Committee, computer teachers held a state level protest rally near the Chief Minister’s residence, while a series of hunger strikes has been going on for 106 days in front of the DC office. During the rally, the Sangharsh Committee announced that the computer teachers will not go back until the DA reinstatement letter is issued. Talks continued with the administration till night, but the DA’s reinstatement letter was not issued. On this occasion, the leaders of Computer Teacher Struggle Committee Punjab, Paramveer Singh Pammi, Johnny Singla, Pradeep Kumar Maluka, Rajwant Kaur and Nardeep Sharma said that on November 5, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema promised immediate relief by restoring the DA during the meeting. . When the letter was not implemented, a rally was held in Sangrur on November 24. Meanwhile, the duty magistrate negotiated with the government and gave time till December 12, but the letter was not issued. During the rally yesterday, the administration gave a fresh assurance to clear the file by Monday/Tuesday after talking to the Finance Minister. The leaders said that until the DA’s reinstatement letter is issued, the computer teachers will stand day and night at the front near the Chief Minister’s residence.
He said that this is the first government in whose state teachers are forced to spend nights under the open sky during the winter season. He warned that if the government does not fulfill the demands, the fast to death will be started from December 22. The agitators are demanding that all the benefits mentioned in the regular orders should be given, Sixth Pay Commission benefits should be given and the education department should be merged unconditionally.
