Pakistan’s court today convicted former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case of 19 crore pounds and sentenced them to 14 and 7 years in prison respectively. Anti-corruption court judge Nasir Javed Rana pronounced the verdict, which had been postponed three times earlier due to various reasons. The last time this decision was postponed was on January 13. The judge sentenced Imran and his wife in a temporary court set up in Adila Jail. Apart from the jail sentence, Khan has been fined 10 lakh Pakistani rupees and Bushra Bibi has been fined 5 lakh Pakistani rupees. In case of non-payment of fine, Khan will have to serve six months and Bushra Bibi will have to serve another three months. The court has also ordered the confiscation of the land of Al-Qadir University established by them. Khan is already in jail while Bushra was arrested from the court. Quoting the former prime minister, his party said, ‘Today’s decision has damaged the image of the judiciary. In this case neither I had any benefit nor the government had any loss. I don’t want any relief and I will face all the cases.’ -News-Patiala
