Cybercrime has become a big challenge

Dr. Ranjit Singh

Punjabis are considered to be the best farmers and youth in the world. According to the teachings of Guru Nanak Sahib, he believed in doing work, sharing and chanting the name. But I don’t know who noticed that some of them are slowly abandoning these qualities and walking towards another path. Corruption, adulteration and dishonesty are rampant in Punjab. Milk, lassi, drinkers are turning to drugs. Now, the new disease that is sweeping the world, Punjabis have not been left behind. This new disease, which is called cybercrime, is spreading in Punjab as well. I was forced to write this because a few days ago our neighboring family was hit with a lime of 17 lakhs. Their son is in Canada. That day mother was alone at home. She is a teacher. Someone called him pretending to be his son and requested him to send money soon, describing his bad condition. He even said that if the money does not arrive today, he may be jailed. He also told his bank and account where the money was to be sent. Mother thought and panicked. Went to the bank and opened my FDs and sent the money without thinking. At night, the son’s phone call came and the mother asked, “Son, have you got the money and your problem is over?” The son was surprised. He asked, “What trouble and what money?” When the mother told the whole story, she came to know that they had been cheated.

Something similar happened to me a few days ago. I got a call around 10 in the morning. I picked up the phone and there was a voice, “Dr. Ranjit Singh ji is speaking?” I thought I would have a reader because there are many such calls during the day. When I said ‘yes’, he started saying, “Dr. Sir, I am a very old reader of yours, by the way, where does your son work?” By doing this, I was told. It would also be appropriate to mention here that he was speaking the Punjabi language. He further said, “I am speaking from the Delhi Police. Your son is caught in a serious case.” When I asked in which case he got caught, he said, “He was going to his office when someone asked him for a lift on the way, and your son gave him his lift. Sat in the car. When we searched the car at the checkpoint, drug traces were found on that man. We arrested him because he was in your son’s car, so he also had to be arrested. I called you because you are a noble man, you have respect in the society and your son is also in a good position. If he gets punished, his life will be ruined.” Daddy save me”. Then he started crying loudly.” I consoled him, “Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you.” I asked the caller what to do now? He started saying, “Our Sahib is standing there, I am talking to him, but you don’t want to hang up.” After a couple of minutes, he started saying again, “I persuaded Sahib with great difficulty, I am asking for four lakhs.” I said, “I don’t have that much money.” He said, “How much will you give?” I said, “I can only give two lakhs.”

After a while he started saying, “I celebrated with great difficulty. You do this, I will tell you the bank account number, send the money now, but do not hang up the phone. If you turn off the phone, sir will issue the challan, then I can’t do anything.” He wrote down the number of a bank in Dwarka and the account holder was a woman. Fortunately, I don’t know how to send money via mobile. I said, “It will take some time, I will go to my bank and send the money.” He started saying, “Sir, don’t wait so long, send the money now, otherwise the challan will be filled.” I requested, “I don’t know how to send money over the phone, I have to.” He started saying, “Send it through a neighbor.” I had to. When he didn’t agree, I got suspicious and said, “The way you are doing, I think it’s a fraud.” Hearing this, he hung up the phone. That’s when I called my son. He said that he is in his office and no such incident happened. I was thankful that I used to scold myself for not knowing how to make mobile payments that should be learned. It was a blessing for me not to come to work that day.

A few days ago at around ten o’clock in the night, I received a call on WhatsApp, when I said ‘hello’, he said, “Mama ji Sat Sri Akal, I am speaking from Canada.” Recognized me.” I said, “Trying, but can’t remember.” He said, “Try.”

A distant sister of mine lives there, I thought they would be the same.

I asked, “Kulwant speaking?”

“Mamaji, you recognized it.”

“It’s been many years since I met you. At this age, where does one remember?

“Other mama ji mami ji okay?”

“All right.”

“Mama ji, do me a job.”

“Tell me what to do?”

“I have to send you some money. Send your bank account number.”

“Why send me? Send them to their families.”

“No, I will not send them. I will come next month and take it from you.”

“No bai, I am not going to get into this mess as an old man. Also, I don’t even remember the account number by word of mouth.”

“Please, Mama, don’t do that. I am very fond of you.”

“I have a compulsion. At this time of night where will I find the pass book!

“Good Mama, I had high hopes for you.”

“My compulsion is son, good morning.”

Maybe I would have told the account number, but even if I try I can’t remember my account number because the numbers are quite long now. Here too my weakness of memory came to my aid.

Whatever it is, it is very bad for Punjabis to walk this way. There is hardly any evil in the world that our new generation is not adopting. Daily news is received from abroad from which information is obtained about drug trafficking, hooliganism and wrongdoing by Punjabi boys and girls. While Punjabis are doing business, agriculture, education and politics abroad, the wrong deeds of a few people bring the entire Punjabi community into disrepute.
