Cyclone Alert! All schools closed in these states… – News-Patiala Punjabi


Cyclone Montha School Holidays: Cyclone Montha, formed in Southeast Bay of Bengal, has strengthened. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted that it would make landfall as a severe cyclonic storm between Machalipatnam and Kalingapatnam near Kakinada on 28 October.

The storm, which started as a deep depression on 26 October, intensified rapidly and was expected to bring heavy to very heavy rains, gusty winds and coastal flooding over parts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and adjoining states.

Schools closed in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha…

According to the Meteorological Department, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, Odisha and Chhattisgarh are likely to receive heavy rainfall. The governments of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have declared school holidays for two to three days in view of the possibility of heavy rainfall in the cyclone-affected districts. In Andhra Pradesh, several districts have declared a holiday from October 27 to 31. In Odisha, schools will remain closed on October 28 and 29.

Schools closed in Tamil Nadu too…
Cyclone Montha has also closed schools in Tamil Nadu, including parts of the Chennai metro area. The local administration has decided to grant temporary holidays to schools and some colleges located in low-lying and coastal areas.
