Cyclone Fengal: Cyclone Storm: Red Alert issued by Meteorological Department

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rains in Kerala today due to Cyclone Fengal. This cyclonic storm has weakened over North Tamil Nadu at present while its impact has started to be felt over South Karnataka.

Meteorologists said heavy rains are likely to occur over the southeast and east-central Arabian Sea near the northern coasts of Kerala and Karnataka around December 3. Light to moderate rain has been forecast in most parts of Kerala and very heavy rain and thundershowers are expected in many places. Meanwhile, a red alert has been issued for the five northern districts of Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram. Officials said that NDRF teams are ready. He said that five teams of NDRF have been deployed in Kerala, while two teams have been deployed in Sabarimala and one team each in Pathanamthitta and Thrissur districts. PTI
