Darshan Singh Kingra’s book Lok Arpan


Sari: (Hardam Maan) The book ‘Punjabi Culture-Sources and Materials’ by American-based literati Darshan Singh Kingra was released by the Vancouver think tank here at the courtyard of Jarnail Art Gallery and Gurdeep Arts Academy, Surrey. Novelist Jarnail Singh Sekha performed the ceremony of presenting the book to the people.

On this occasion, Sucha Singh Keller said that Darshan Singh Kingra has previously published 9 books on various aspects of Punjabi culture and under the same series ‘Punjabi Culture-Sources and Materials’ is his tenth book. He said that in this book the tools and equipment used in rural life are presented in a beautiful and interesting style with references to folk songs, dialects, coffees and Gurbani. It gives us a clear glimpse of our heritage. It also states that in ancient times all the tools and instruments used to connect man with manual and precise work due to which man was physically and mentally healthy.

Jarnail Singh Sekha said that this is a commendable initiative by Darshan Singh Kingra to preserve the proud and disappearing culture of Punjabi in a unique way. In this book, the author has presented the rural life in the historical context of Punjabi folklore, folk songs and culture. Poet Mohan Gill said that Darshan Singh Kingra’s cultural articles have been published continuously for the last 9 years. These essays reflect his passion and research for culture.

Zile Singh, Amrik Singh Mann, Billa Takhar and Gurmeet Singh Kalkat congratulated Darshan Singh Kingra and said that this book is an important historical document of Punjabi culture highlighting the lifestyle, activities, tools and many aspects of rural Punjabi life. is
