Shambhu Border (Patiala)/Ambala, December 6
Haryana Police today did not allow a group of 101 farmers who marched to Delhi as dead under the program drawn up by the United Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha to cross the Shambhu border. When the farmers built a solid and high wall and approached the Haryana Police stationed on the other side of the nets, they were pepper sprayed and then tear gas shells and rubber bullets were fired at them. During this, 20 farmers were injured. Finally, after three hours of struggle, the group returned to the camp under the decision of the leadership. The injured farmers have been admitted to hospitals in Rajpura and Patiala.
Farmer leaders Sarwan Singh Pandher and Baldev Singh Jira said that a demand letter has been given to the Haryana government officials for talks with the Centre. He said that the next batch of 101 farmers will march towards Delhi on December 8 at 12 o’clock if they do not receive an invitation letter for the meeting.
Surjeet Singh Phool, Provincial President of Bharatiya Kisan Union Krantikari, Harpreet Bahra, Provincial President of Youth Wing BKU (BahramK), Avtar Singh Chachowali, Gobindar Singh Akari, Ajmer Singh Amisha, Jaswant Singh Jhande, Jatinder Singh Varyan, Balbir Singh Bhaini were also involved in the police action. Gurdaspur, Swaran Singh Variam Nangal, Budh Singh Udoke, Jagdish Singh Chachro, Sukhjinder Singh Pokhar, Surinder Singh Pokhar, Jagtar Singh Ghadam Kalan, Jassa Singh Jhamke Khurd and Samudh Singh Udhoke have been injured and have been admitted to the hospital.
It is to be noted that after reading and praying to Japuji Sahib, the group of 101 unarmed farmers under the leadership of Sarjit Singh Phool, Satnam Singh Pannu, Savinder Chatala and Baljinder Chandyala was sent to Delhi by farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher at 1.01 pm. Farmers were given the name Marjivadas. As a first step, these farmers threw the vehicles in the middle of the road with thick nails and barbed wire at five-six places by the Haryana Police. Soon the farmers reached the strong and high wall built to block the crossing on this bridge of river Ghaggar, on which a strong mesh is attached. Farmer leaders said that they will not cause any disturbance and let them proceed towards Delhi, but the police reasoned that there are orders that they should not be allowed to proceed without the approval of the Delhi government. An hour later, at around 2 o’clock, the Haryana police pepper-sprayed the farmers and then started firing tear gas shells and rubber bullets, due to which around 20 farmers were injured. On learning this, the leadership called the group back.
By holding a press conference, farmer leaders Sarwan Singh Pandher and Baldev Singh Jira said that at first they were defamed as terrorists, but now they were unarmed. Despite this, tear gas shells were fired, but this is their moral victory because now the world has come to know that those who call themselves pillars of democracy are firing shells and bullets at their own citizens in this country. The government accuses them of running away from talks, but they are ready to talk. Many other farmer leaders including Manjit Ghumana, Manjit Niyal, Guramneet Mangat were present on this occasion.
