After the death of a youth belonging to a working family due to drug overdose in nearby village Jawaharke, around seven persons were injured in the late night lathi charge during the dharna at Ramdittewala Chowk, out of which three were admitted to Civil Hospital Mansa. is After this, the protestors staged a permanent dharna in Civil Hospital Mansa. At the time of the dharna, the convener of the anti-narcotics action committee, Rajwinder Singh Rana, said that the police indiscriminately lathi-charged the people who were protesting in Ramdittewala Chowk late at night and injured many of the protestors. He said that four days have passed since the death of Gurmeet Singh due to drug overdose, but the police has not been able to arrest any drug trafficker yet. They demanded that a case should be registered against the drug traffickers of village Jawaharke, that the family member of the deceased should be given a compensation of Rs 10 lakh in the government job and action should be taken against those who are selling drugs openly in the jurisdiction of the police station and those who are lathi-charged. go He warned that as long as the demands are not accepted, the cremation of the deceased will not take place. The body of the youth has been kept in the mortuary of Civil Hospital Mansa.
He said that the deceased’s sister Sandeep Kaur, aunt Beant Kaur and a young man Tari Singh, who were injured in the lathi charge, have been admitted to Civil Hospital Mansa. Parminder Singh Jhota, Vijay Bhikhi, Surinder Sharma, Balwinder Kaur Hagargana and Gagandeep Sirsiwala also spoke on this occasion.
Beant Kaur, head of police station City-1 Mansa, says that the police is carrying out its operation and no one has been arrested so far.
On the other hand, DSP Buta Singh says that the police did not lathi charge the protesters.
