Teacher Altaf Hussain, resident of village Gah, has said that a group of local people had organized a condolence meeting to express grief over the demise of Manmohan Singh. A large number of people attended it and remembered the good things of Manmohan Singh along with his work.
Altaf Hussain is a teacher in the same school where Manmohan Singh studied till class four. His memories are preserved here. Manmohan had also installed geysers and solar lights in this village.

Manmohan got many works done for the village Rural Raja Abdul Khaliq tells that when Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister of India, he built a girls’ high school in Gah, a children’s high school, a veterinary hospital, he also built a paved road till Gah.
Raja Abdul also shared an anecdote about Manmohan Singh. He told that Manmohan Singh had also installed a geyser in the village mosque. The reason for this was that once I was talking to Manmohan Singh. He (Manmohan) said that people offer namaz in the mosque, but the water with which they wash their hands and feet remains cold. He expressed his desire to install a geyser in the mosque.
According to Raja Abdul, Manmohan Singh was told that there were 3 mosques in the village. After this, Manmohan sent 3 geysers from India to the village, which are still used in the mosques of the village.

Manmohan studied only till fourth class in Gah village. His fourth class report card is still safe in the school.

Manmohan Singh’s father was a textile businessman Dr. Manmohan Singh’s father Gurmukh Singh was a textile businessman, and his mother Amrit Kaur was a housewife. His childhood was spent in Gah village of Pakistan. His friends used to call him ‘Mohana’. Gah village is about 100 kilometers south-west of Islamabad. This village was part of Jhelum district at the time of Dr. Singh’s birth, but in 1986 it was included in Chakwal district.
Report cards are kept in school Dr. Manmohan Singh received his early education from the most prestigious government school of Gah village. Even today his roll number is recorded in the school register as 187 and the date of admission is 17 April 1937. His date of birth is recorded as 4 February 1932 and caste as ‘Kohli’. He studied here till class four and the report card of all the classes is preserved in the school.
