Now South American country Venezuela has also taken strict action against TikTok. In fact, the Supreme Court of Venezuela has imposed a fine of one million dollars on TikTok. The Supreme Court of Venezuela has imposed a fine of one million dollars on TikTok. The action has been taken against the company because it is accused of not taking any steps to prevent the viral challenge, which led to the death of three children. Venezuela’s Supreme Tribunal of Justice Judge Tania D’Amelio accused TikTok of negligence for not taking steps to prevent harmful content.
Instructions for opening an office in Venezuela
Along with the fine, the Venezuelan court also ordered TikTok to open an office in Venezuela. Its purpose is to ensure that the company complies with local laws. It is not yet clear how the fine will be enforced, as ByteDance’s parent company, ByteDance, is headquartered in China. The money raised from this fine will go to the ByteDance Victims Fund, which will compensate affected users, especially children and teenagers.
The President also targeted TikTok
Three teenagers died and 200 were found intoxicated in schools across the country after consuming drugs as a result of a social media challenge, according to Venezuelan officials. One of the victims was a 12-year-old girl, who died after allegedly taking part in a challenge involving tranquilizer pills. Following the incident, President Nicolás Maduro publicly blamed TikTok for the deaths.
