EU’s big step for online safety of children! Now app will be confirmed with age, know new plan

EU: The European Commission has issued a new guidelines to strengthen the online security of children under the Digital Services Act (DSA) and also introduced a prototype of a new age verified app. These guidelines state that digital platforms can better protect children from online hazards such as addiction features, cyber bullying, harmful content and unwanted contacts. In addition, it is also clarified under which circumstances and how age verification should be done, especially on high-risk platforms with adult content.

How to work app

The Commission said in its statement that an important part of this initiative is such a prototype app that allows the user to provide proof of age while keeping the privacy of the user safe. Through this app, users will be able to prove that they are over 18 years of age without sharing their date of birth or other personal information.

In the initial phase, this app will be tested in Denmark, France, Greece, Italy and Spain. These tests will contain the participation of other online platforms including adult content provider. Depending on the results of the test, it can also be applied in other areas such as liquor sales.

Privacy will get a boost

This partnership-based initiative is considered a major step towards effective implementation of DSA, which will promote a secrecy-dominated and uniform policy of age verification throughout the EU.

According to European Commission Executive Vice President Henna Virkukunen, “It is the top priority for us to keep our children and youth online. Now the platforms do not have an excuse to continue their old policies that are dangerous.”
