Kolkata Police busted a call center racket and arrested 19 persons late on Monday night. Sources in the city police said that the racket was offering a tempting offer to download an anti-malware app while offering related devices. Once the person (target) falls into the trap, their entire data is shared through the downloaded app.
Many victims lost huge amounts of money from their banks by falling for this scam. Sources of the city police said that based on the complaint of one such victim, the city police sleuths started investigating the matter. They discovered that the entire fraud was being run from a residential flat outside Ballygunge in South Kolkata.
Accordingly, a team of investigating officers of the city police has arrested 19 persons in this connection by conducting a surprise raid on a residence on Monday night. The investigating officers have also seized several laptops, mobiles and other electronic devices from the flat. Officials said the flat has already been sealed, adding that the 19 people arrested in this connection were only employees of the fake call center and that someone else was behind the racket. It is learned that the target of the racket was not only Indians but also foreigners. IANS
