Italian fashion designer and founder of Armani Group, Giorgio Armani died on Thursday, 4 September. He was 91 years old. Armani was famous for making Italy a pioneer in global fashion and designing clothes for Hollywood stars.
He dominated the fashion world for nearly 50 years and made Armani one of the world’s most famous luxury brands.
Giorgio Armani was the second child of his father Yugo Armani and mother Maria Remondi. He grew up with his elder brother Serjio and younger sister Roasena in Piacenza. Armani’s father Ugo was an accountant in a shipping company.
Dreamed of becoming a doctor by reading ‘The Citadel’ book
During his schooling, Armani gave A.J. Read Krronin’s book ‘The Citadel’. After reading this, he dreamed of becoming a doctor. Then Armani enrolled in the Medicine Department of the University of Milan for medicine in 1950. He also studied for 3 years, but the doctor’s studies remained incomplete.
Leaving college and joined the army
Actually, this was a later round after World War 2. In those days, every young man from Italy had to work in the army. When he got a call letter from the military, he was running his third year. He then joined the Italian Army. Due to being in the medicine sector, he was posted as a doctor at Military Hospital in Varona.
Seeing the flowing blood of the injured soldiers during the surgery at the Army Hospital, the Giorgio was shocked by the doctor’s profession. When he got out of the army in 1957, he said goodbye to this profession and went back to Milan. Going there, he thought of working in any other area other than medicine. A few days learned photography but got bored very quickly.
Career begins as a window dresser
Armani began working in 1957 as a window dresser at Milan’s Famous Department Store La Rinascente. Later he became the salesmen of the store. He then worked in a company called Maryimeco.
It used to work in innovative finishing clothes, clothing and home furnishing sectors. Later he became the seller of the Mains Wear Department here.
After this, in 1961, he started working as a Mains Wear designer at Nino Seruti’s fashion house company Hitman. While living here, he started designing freelance for 10 fashion companies.
Worked as freelance designer
In the late 1960s, Armani met architectural draftsman Sergio Geloti. Then both of them became friends at personal and professional levels. Geloti asked him to open a designer office and later persuaded him. Armani left a job from Hitman in 1973 and opened his office in 37 courses of Milan in Venezia.
Armani worked freelance with the top brands of Milan for about 2 years.
During this time Armani worked as a freelance designer for many fashion houses including Milan top brand Elegri, Bagutta, Hilton, Six, Gibo, Montedoro and Tendress for about 2 years.
At that time there was a lot of demand for cloding and designing and style. His designing was appreciated on the fashion runway. Due to this, International Fashion Anthujiast was also interested in Georgio Armani.
Armani company started by selling car
While working freelance, one day Armani felt why he would not put his energy on his own brand. But they did not have money. He then sold his Volkswagen Beetle car.
Finally on July 24, 1975, he laid the foundation of Armani Company in Milan with his business partner Geloti. Also, Georgio Armani launched the brand. In October 1975, he introduced his first men’s ready-to-wier collection in his name and summer 1976. Also, for the same season, they also introduced ready-to-wier collections for women.
After this Armani created an innovative relationship with the people of the fashion industry. Due to this, he entered into an agreement with Group Finanjiaio Textile (GFT) in 1978.
In 1980, the Hollywood film ‘American Jigolo’ (Richard Gere wore Armani’s designed suit) got international fame.
In the early 1980s, the company entered into an agreement with Laorial. Then the construction of perfume and cosmetics under the name Armani beauty started. He then introduced Armani Junior, Armani Jeans, and Emporio Armani lines.
This was followed by Emporio underwear, swimwear and accessories in 1982. In the 1990s, he spread his fashion Imper to Hotels, Home Decor, Perfume and Lifestyle Products.
50% participation of women in the management of the company
In a few years, Armani became the identity of the fashion industry. Today Armani’s business is $ 2.7 billion (23 thousand crore rupees) annually turnover. More than 600 stores and 9,000 employees are associated with this group worldwide. The special thing is that women have half the posts in the management.
Armani has left behind a big ligament and an employee of 13 billion dollars i.e. 1 lakh 15 thousand crore rupees.
‘Red carpet fashion’ is called the father of
Armani is called the father of ‘Red Carpet Fashion’. Hollywood big stars such as Julia Roberts, Russell Crow, Lady Gaga, George Clooney wearing their designs. Richard Gair’s suit in the 1980 film American Gigolo made Armani the world famous. His power suits changed the identity of the corporate world for women.
