Famous makeup artist Vikram Gaikwad dies, film industry mourning

Mumbai. Film industry is immersed in mourning with the death of famous makeup artist Vikram Gaikwad, who has done makeup of actors in films like ‘The Dirty Picture’, ‘Dangal’, ‘Piku’, ‘Mohenjo Daro’. Many celebs, including Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde, mourned his death and said that he was a magician. Varun Dhawan resorted to Instagram to express condolences. He wrote on the stories section, “I got the privilege of working with Vikram Gaikwad sir in ‘Badlapur’, he helped in designing my look. He was a true magician who carried forward Indian cinema. Thank you Dada.”

Pooja Hegde told in an emotional post that ‘Vikram Dada’ taught her a lot in life. Pooja worked with Vikram in the 2016 Ashutosh Gowariker’s film ‘Mohenjo Daro’. Gaikwad did the makeup of Pooja’s character ‘Chani’.

Before Pooja Hegde, Aamir Khan’s production house also shared the post and expressed grief over his death. The production house wrote, “With sorrow we have to say goodbye to the best makeup artist Vikram Gaikwad. We got a great opportunity to work with him in films like ‘PK’, ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Dangal’.”

The production house further wrote, “He was a master in his work as well as his work. He worked to mold many artists in tremendous characters, who will always be alive on the screen. Heartfelt condolences to his family from Aamir Khan Productions. We will remember you.”

Aamir Khan also did Macup for ‘Dangal’, ‘PK’ and ‘Rang De Basanti’.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also expressed condolences. He told that Vikram, who won the National Award 7 times, made it possible to impossible with his work. Through makeup, there was a skill to create a director’s desired character. This is a big loss for the art world.

Vikram Gaikwad showed the magic of his makeup art in films like ‘Dangal’, ‘Uri’, ‘Three Idiots’, ‘Omkara’, ‘PK’, ‘The Dirty Picture’, ‘Badlapur’, ‘Rang De Basanti’ in his career. The last rites of Vikram Gaikwad were performed at Shivaji Park crematorium in Dadar on Saturday evening.
