About 150 acres of fields were flooded due to breach of Rajbaha in village Koharwala of Faridkot. Standing crops of vegetables including wheat were badly affected. After receiving information about this matter, officials of the canal department reached the spot and started the work of repairing the Rajbaha.

Rajbaha, passing through Koharwala village adjacent to Kotkapura city, suddenly broke late on Tuesday night and due to the strong flow of water, about 150 acres of fields in the village were flooded. After people were informed on Wednesday morning, the canal department got the water supply of Rajbaha closed. But by then the farmers’ wheat and vegetable crops were submerged in water.

Farmers are doing farming by taking land on contract

Farmers Tejwinder Singh and Jagjit Singh said that after the breach of Rajbaha, the canal department took a lot of time to shut off the water, due to which several feet of water got accumulated in the fields and their crops were destroyed. Most of the farmers are doing farming by taking land on contract and they have demanded compensation from the administration and the state government.

Will struggle if farmers do not get compensation – BKU leader

On this occasion, Block President of Bharatiya Kisan Union, Jaspreet Singh said that the condition of Rajbaha has become very bad and many times in the past too, farmers have suffered losses due to its breakage. If the administration does not release compensation to the affected farmers, then there will be a struggle by their organization.

After information, water was turned off and repairs started – SDO

In this matter, SDO of Canal Department, Manish Arora said that after getting the information, he had shut off the water and started the repairs. He said that the officers of the Goods Department will conduct a survey of the farmers’ losses and compensation action will be taken as per the instructions of the government.
